Yet another board update

Here is the pantry area. There's nothing on the shelves, but I'll work on that in a minute. Just posting this before I get something for lunch.

Also, you guys need to post some stuff, lol.

Another board update

Well, here's the garden area mostly complete. I might add some more gardening tools or potted plants for clutter. That's all for now. Back to work.

Starting the board

Like the title says, I've started making the game board design. Here's some 72 DPI versions of what I'm at right now:

I've tried a few different methods and found that a more abstract system fits the mood of out game better. The board is pretty much barren, but that's being worked on of course. There will be a 1/2 inch border around the whole board in the end, and I plan on putting some type of key and labels for the rooms in that margin. The entire image is being made in Painter X, if you guys even care. Haha, whatever.

Nice to hear you're working with actual ink, Link. It'd be great to see what you're making. Of, one more thing. The name of the poster is now switched on at the bottom of every post, so no need to state your name anymore. Although you can if you feel like it, haha.

I'll work on more of the board today, maybe even finish most of it. Keep an eye out for more image posts. Also, feedback on anything is helpful. Painter is pretty forgiving with fixing things, so it's not a big deal to modify my stuff a bit. Also, if I can find my old PNG converter I'll post 150 or 300 DPI versions, because you can see the paint smudges and all that crap in those.

That's all for this update. I'm out.

Inking

I am still not that far into the art process. The one pen I was using took was too long to dry and also smeared a few times. It pissed me off! Now I have switched pens. This one will allow me to work faster because of the quick drying process, but it is made with a different type of ink so it is somewhat noticeable. Hopefully it is just me and you guys cant see the differences in the drawings. Then I am thinking, " It is all going to be scaned in so it will all show up as black". So really it wont matter. I will be posting some pictures tomorrow or at least try too. If not Jarrod, I will send them to your e-mail. I will also be able to work more on this project on Saturday and Sunday. I have to work it around my animation project, but it will get done! Only worked for about 2 hours tonight and now I am calling it a night. So ya Monday.

On our own...

Glass here.

Yeah, as Link said, we're doing our own thing this upcoming week. Our professor is going to GDC to speak and that means we need to plan our own meetings. It's not set in stone, but it looks like we're meeting during our usual class time on Monday.

As for the project itself, we pretty much need to finish it in the next week or so. It's not that bad, since we've handed out tasks already.

I had some free time, so I wrote this up quickly. Still need to post some working images, so that might come later tonight. I'm also working on a few test styles for the art of the game board, and those will be posted sometime later as well.

Glass out.

Sean (Link) Puckett

Joined the blog today and my plans for the group project is doing the art. So far in our group we have test played it at least 3 times and finally set up. Each one of us has a set duty for the project. The board name is not set as of yet, but we dont need to worry about that till the end. I am over hearing from the group that we will be meating next week while our professor is at GDC. So I will keep this blog shot and sweet and get back to the art work.

First post.

Glass Edge here.

Well, the project site begins today, but the game itself has been in production for a week or so already. Maybe a recap is in order? Basically, our game is a cooking game in which players take on the roles of chefs. They run around a kitchen gathering ingredients to make meals, and meals give them points. The chef with the most points at the end of the game wins. It's simple enough, and it surprises me that a game like this hasn't been made yet.

So anyway, we've been iteratively testing different components of our game already. So far it looks like we have a basic game board layout completed (I'll post that later). Also, we've established a working and fair score system, where the ingredients in a meal have individual point values that add up when made into meals. Every meal has required ingredients to finish the meal, plus additional "flavor" ingredients for extra points. The meals themselves are balanced in that they are worth about the same amount of overall points as each other with all ingredients.

Lastly, there are attack cards (which are currently codenamed "Mischief Cards") and attack moves. The cards are drawn from a deck when a chef lands on an appropriate square. They have various good and bad effects, and may be played at the card owner's discretion. Then there are attack moves. The chefs may use a turn to shove another chef near them in order to move them off of squares. By chance (rolling a die) the shoved chef might drop an ingredient. Lastly there's the "sacrifice" attack, where a chef throws an ingredient they own at another chef, which may knock ingredients out of the target chef's hands (two rolls of the die determine this move).

That is basically what we've come up with so far. The details still need to be worked out, so more on them later. Future updates are coming regularly, after every meeting session if not daily. Also, keep an eye out for some images soon.
